CUB SCOUTS

Map and Compass Academics Pin:

Scouts will learn to read different types of maps and to use a compass. Scouts must have already earned their Map and Compass belt loop before they can earn their pin through this program.

BEAR ELECTIVES

Nature Crafts:

Enjoyable and educational Nature Craft elective activities c, d, & e help scouts understand plants and aquatic life better.
length: 2 hours
location: woods (and fields) with water

Water and Soil Conservation:

Activities a, d, and e of this elective are more educational when an experienced naturalist guides the scouts through the exercises.
length: 2 hours

American Indian Life:

Bear Cubs learn about the American Indian cultures of both central Virginia and across the country.
length: 1½ hours
location: indoors or out

 

WEBELOS OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITY BADGES

Each program meets the requirements for Webelos to earn the corresponding activity badge.

Forester:

Webelo scouts learn all about the forests native to their area with a knowledgeable naturalist.
length: 1½ hours.

Naturalist:

This is a broad introduction to the natural history of your den's area. Let a professional naturalist develop the budding naturalist in your scouts.
length: 2 hours
location: woods (and fields), preferably with water

 

Brownies

TRY-ITS: Each program covers at least the minimum number of activities required to earn the Try-It.

Earth and Sky:

Brownies discover nature with a professional interpreter who will help introduce them to it.
length: 1½ hours

Watching Wildlife:

An introduction to the needs and habits of some common types of wildlife.
length: 1½ hours
location: fields or woods

Animals:

Brownies will be introduced to the ways of animals through observations in the field and through games.

JUNIOR GIRL SCOUTS

BADGES: Each badge program covers at least six of the activities required to earn that badge.

Earth Connections:

This fun badge program gives an introduction to some of the basic principles in the environmental sciences.

Finding Your Way:

Girls learn to read and draw different types of maps, and use a compass.
length: 2½ hours
location: lawn or woods

Outdoor Cook:

This program covers meal planning, preparation, and clean-up for front-country and back-country camping trips, using leave-no-trace methods. The program includes a delicious meal cooked over a campfire.
length: 3½ hours

Sky Search:

In this nighttime program scouts learn about the constellations, planets, and moon with a knowledgeable night sky interpreter.
length: 2 hours
location: unlighted open area

Wildlife:

An introduction to wild fauna and flora, and how scientists observe and group them.

Your Outdoor Surroundings:

Girls learn basic leave-no-trace camping techniques, as well as how to more closely observe their outdoor surroundings.
