Sample lesson plan for a program on
EXPANDING YOUR AWARENESS OF NATURE

AGE: tenth graders
PROGRAM LENGTH: 3 hours
LOCATION: Combination of open area and woods
OBJECTIVE: Students will increase their awareness in nature through an enjoyable and balanced combination of active and meditative exercises and games utilizing focused attention with all their senses.
| 1) Greeting and introduction to the program |

| 2) Guided introduction of the natural surroundings using all the senses |

| 3) Scent hike |

| Students follow “trail” created with mint oil |

| 4) Game: “Find Your Tree” |

| Students work in pairs. One is blindfolded and led by the other to a tree. Use all senses except sight to get to know the tree. Blindfold is removed. Student must find their tree. Pairs reverse roles. |

| 5) “I Found Circles” micro hike |
20 minutes |
| Students search a square foot area with a hand lens for patterns (circles, triangles, etc.) |

| 6) Learning Fox Walk and Splatter Vision |
15 minutes |
| Students learn to walk silently and to see with the entire field of vision |

| 7) Game: “Squirt Gun Stalking” using fox walk and attuned listening |

| 8) Quiet hike utilizing fox walk and splatter vision to increase awareness of surroundings |
